VCCP Singapore has appointed TBWA\'s former head of cultural intelligence, Belynda Sim, as its APAC head of strategy. This comes as the agency aims to strengthen and grow its local and international capabilities. According to the agency, Sim's (pictured) appointment completes the leadership team after business director, Jaslyn Lam, who joined in November last year.
Sim joins with over 20 years of experience in driving integrated communications and brand strategy across travel and hospitality, FMCG, retail, finance, insurance, and consumer tech. Sim also joins with a deep understanding and experience across APAC having focused on markets such as Southeast Asia, China and India. Prior to VCCP Singapore, Sim was the head of cultural intelligence at TBWA\ for six years. Under her leadership, Sim drove a suite of brands largely focused on Millennials and post-Millennials.
Sim also helmed Backslash APAC, an editorial and cultural strategy start-up within the TBWA\ creative network. Backslash APAC was launched to primarily inspire and inform clients about culture as it happens and help convert cultural insights into brand opportunities. She also worked at Ogilvy as planning director and accumulated qualitative research experience at cultural strategy agency Flamingo Research International.
Sim said she has always loved shaking up status quos. "This is an exciting time to join a growing team to help shape the future direction of the VCCP partnership across APAC", added Sim.
Meanwhile, VCCP Singapore's CEO, Craig Mapleston welcomed Sim to the team. "Her attitude and past work show that she brings a true challenger approach - finding fresh opportunities for brands undergoing transformation. And her great cultural understanding of what inspires consumers in APAC will be of enormous benefit to our team and clients," Mapleston explained. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to VCCP Singapore for additional information regarding Sim's appointment.
Separately, VCCP Singapore recently appointed Kelvin Lim as head of art as well. The appointment comes following new business wins at the start of the year and strong ongoing growth for the agency. The appointment also allows the agency to provide more for existing clients as well as seasoned mentorship to develop the existing creative team. Lim’s appointment, alongside Guy Futcher’s recent appointment as creative director, adds additional seniority to the team, which includes Hook and Shervin Seah, associate creative director. VCCP said in a statement then that it is building an agency for the long-term and looking past short-term fixes. In the last twelve months, VCCP Singapore has concentrated on diversifying its offerings launching its B2B business.
