SPH Media Trust has appointed Teo Lay Lim as CEO of the SPH Media Group with effect from 1 March 2022. Teo (pictured), who was previously chairman of Accenture Singapore until 31 August, succeeds interim CEO Patrick Daniel.
Prior to joining the SPH Media Group, Teo held numerous leadership roles during her three decades with Accenture. She is a seasoned business leader who has a track record of building businesses from the ground up. Teo started up Accenture’s Customer Relationship Management practice in 2000, and Accenture Analytics and Accenture Sustainability Services in 2008, when these were still emerging sectors. She also spent two years based in Shanghai to develop the CRM practice for Greater China. Teo was also chief executive of Accenture Southeast Asia from 2011 to 2020.
"I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead the SPH Media Group as CEO during these exciting times. As we work to keep pace with a very dynamic media landscape, I will be working closely with my colleagues in our transformation journey to create trusted products for our always-connected audiences," Teo said.
Singapore Media Trust's chairman, Khaw Boon Wan, said Teo brings with her a wealth of experience. "She has an acute sense of creating opportunities for commercial growth. Most importantly, she possesses a passion for building and transforming people and organisations for the long-term. The Group looks forward to working closely with Teo on strategies to underscore its vision and mission to produce trusted quality journalism," he added.
Khaw also thanked Daniel for his contributions as interim CEO. According to Khaw, Daniel has led the restructuring of the SPH media business under the new not-for-profit economic structure, and enabled the newsrooms to chart a bolder digital transformation journey. Daniel, former deputy CEO and editor-in-chief at SPH, came out of retirement last May to take on the role of interim CEO when it was announced that the SPH media business would be restructured under a not-for-profit economic structure.
Daniel said: "It has been my privilege to lead the transition team overseeing the smooth restructuring of the SPH media business as a not-for-profit entity. I am happy to hand over the reins to Teo. I have every confidence that under her leadership, the SPH Media Group will succeed in its mission."
Last month, Khaw said SMT will be doubling down its investments on tech and talent as it strives to deliver quality, credible journalism. Moving forward, SMT plans to become more customer-focused, data-driven and collaborative, in line with its digital transformation efforts. At the same time, SMT will still place emphasis on ads and subscriptions to grow its commercial revenue.
