REV Media Group hunts for tech talents to lead 2022 digitalisation efforts

REV Media Group, a subsidiary of Media Prima, plans to hire more tech talents to spearhead digitalisation efforts in 2022. The group is currently on the hunt for web developers, full-stack engineers, and a few other roles within the tech space. According to head of technology and innovation, Mohamed Aafrin, these roles are vital to the group's digitalisation efforts and the company’s expansion process.

The tech team is also heavily investing in technologies such as microservices, serverless technologies, big data, machine learning, AI, AR, and VR. Additionally, it plans to focus on R&D, to bring emerging technologies into the news and media space. Mohamed Aafrin said the group will also offer internships for students coming from all backgrounds to experience the news and media landscape. A+M has reached out to the group for additional information regarding the hires.

REV Media Group's tech team was formed in 2016 and plays a vital role in ensuring platform innovation, development, and management of Media Prima’s core business pillars such as television, print, radio, OOH advertising, content creation, and digital media.

Separately, REV Media Group saw a leadership change last month when Samuel was appointed CEO. Nicholas Sagau, former chief product officer, succeeded Wee as chief operating officer. These promotions came after former CEO of REV Media Group, Rafiq Razali, was promoted to group MD of Media Prima in October. He was first promoted to group executive director of Media Prima earlier this year and later oversaw group operations in the interim when Iskandar Mizal stepped down as MD.

REV Media Group's plans are in line with the talent trends that Malaysia is witnessing this year. According to LinkedIn's Talent Insights in April, the in-demand digital skills for the year included software development, SQL, programming, cloud computing, and JavaScript. Meanwhile, digital marketing, video editing, analytical skills and data entry were among the fast-growing skills year-on-year. At the same time, Michael Page's 2021 talent trends report also cited jobs types such as transformaiton, digital marketing, and software/data/analytics as those with the highest hiring activity.
