Media Prima promotes Rafiq Razali to group MD

Media Prima has promoted Rafiq Razali to group MD. He is currently the CEO of REV Media Group and group executive director of Media Prima. Rafiq (pictured) was promoted to group executive director of Media Prima earlier this year and later oversaw group operations in the interim when Iskandar Mizal stepped down as MD.

Rafiq first joined the organisation in 2016 as CEO of REV Media Group and has been instrumental in leading Media Prima to become one of Malaysia’s leading digital media companies. According to Media Prima, this was done through unifying the Group’s digital strategy, and expanding its digital reach and assets, the company said.

He began his career with Maxis where he held various positions that included responsibilities in the international business division and the corporate strategy division. In 2011, he moved on to Groupon Malaysia and was promoted to country GM in 2013, following an impressive run of performance by the outfit. In 2015, Rafiq was part of the founding team that established KFit (now known as Fave), a Malaysian start-up with operations across the Asia Pacific region. Fave was recently acquired by a leading regional fintech company. Rafiq is also currently an Endeavor mentor.

At the same time, it also appointed Rosli Sabarudin as CFO. Media Prima's group chairman Syed Hussian Aljunid said the time is right to pave the way for a new leadership team. According to him, Rafiq has been at the forefront of the Group’s transformation efforts, having played a key role in the operational improvement and digitalisation initiatives across all its media platforms since 2016.

"His many contributions to the Group include establishing Media Prima as the local industry leader in the digital realm. He has a strong understanding of the Group’s business operations and when combined with his prior experience leading successful digital start-ups and commerce companies, we are confident that Rafiq is the ideal choice to lead Media Prima to new levels of success," he added.

Last year, Media Prima Digital and REV Asia combined to form REV Media Group in a bid to further streamline business processes and functions. A spokesperson told A+M previously that internally, the rebranding exercise was to mark and celebrate the unification of two digital media organisations into one common and recognisable brand and culture. "Externally, we hope to continue delivering the best solutions to our customers under one unified brand with better clarity and synergies," the spokesperson said.
