Publicis Groupe has named Sony Nichani CEO for Publicis Groupe Indonesia replacing Brian Capel (pictured left). She reports to Loris Nold, CEO for Publicis Groupe Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. Nichani (pictured right) joined Publicis Groupe in March from FCB Jakarta to run and handle the international businesses as MD. She was also responsible for supporting the CEO on running the group P&L along with the management team.

Nichani began her career in strategic planning at FCB India and has worked across many categories, markets, and consumer segments. For over six years, she worked across the Tata group companies before moving to the client-side leading Tata’s entry into mobile services. At Tata’s, she was the head of brand marketing for over seven years which allowed her to understand both client ecosystems and the role of agency partners. Nichani then moved to Indonesia to set up the planning function for FCB in the region and was then tasked with leading the office in 2016.

Nichani said this has been a year of significant changes and opportunities. " I look forward to continuing the good work and the partnerships Publicis Groupe enjoys with the clients in Indonesia," she added.

Nold said he is very pleased with Nichani's appointment to lead the Groupe efforts in Indonesia. "It’s a very important market for many of our clients and I am convinced that under Sony’s leadership we will accelerate on our ambition there," he added.

Meanwhile according to his LinkedIn, Capel has been with Publicis Groupe Indonesia for more than 12 years, first joining in 2008 as group chief creative officer. He was later promoted to CEO in 2017, taking over the reins from Anne Ridwan. Capel has 26 years of experience in the communications industry working in creative agency networks including Ogilvy, Leo Burnett and DMB&B across Malaysia and Indonesia. He has also worked with global and local brands including McDonald’s, Friesland Campina, Telkomsel, Indofood, Philip Morris International, Malaysia Airlines, Nestle and Pizza Hut. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to Capel for comment on his next move.
