Mastercard has partnered with 13 brands across retail, food and beverage and hospitality industries, to roll out an array of offers for HongKongers who are planning to travel to Taiwan.
This comes as Taiwan has resumed issuing entry permits for Hong Kong individual tourists from 20 February. With its easy accessibility from Hong Kong, Mastercard believed that more HongKongers will travel to Taiwan for a quick weekend getaway.
According to the press release, insights drawn from Mastercard anonymised and aggregated data revealed that, higher income regions may provide an early indication on possible travel behaviour of cardholders from Hong Kong, spending on retail, travel and experiences recovers strongly across both the premium and mass card segments. It shows that premium cardholders have a stronger preference to spend on travel and entertainment experiences than the mass segment.
Furthermore, data from Mastercard showed that, in 2019, daily meals and transport spend by Hong Kong travellers were respectively 20% and 10% above the average spend by tourists from all origins, suggesting that Hong Kong travellers head to Taiwan for a gastronomic experience, as well as getting around in the most convenient manner to maximise what they can do with their time.
