FedEx Express has operated a chartered flight to bring a big panda to Chengdu, China, in a bid to showcase the company's capabilities to transport "the world's most precious cargo".
Working in conjunction with the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, D.C., FedEx Express donated its logistics services to ship the four-year-old panda Bei Bei. Accompanied by a panda keeper and a veterinarian, Bei Bei was placed in a special crate provided by FedEx with a supply of bamboo, apples, and pears, biscuits, cooked sweet potatoes, and water.
Prior to the flight, FedEx Express also provided logistical support in Washington, D.C. to deliver Bei Bei from the zoo to the airport. The company said such arrangements demonstrated its capabilities to handle special shipments that meet the highest standards of operational excellence in the industry.
Since 2000, FedEx Express has shipped eight pandas between China and the Western countries including the US, Canada, the UK, and France.
"We are honoured to again be part of a truly special mission. The successful transportation of Bei Bei underscores the company's commitment to safely and securely transporting even the world's most precious cargo. We are proud to have once again served as the trusted carrier, which is a testament to our operational strength and ability to handle highly sophisticated shipments that need special attention and requirements," said Karen Reddington, president, Asia Pacific at FedEx Express.
Yeah, it may be a PR stunt. But we can't deny it's very a cute one. Watch the video and try not to go "awww" at least once.
