Creative network GUT expands into Asia with SG office

Creative network GUT has opened a new office in Singapore, the first based in Asia and the tenth in the network. 

The Singapore office adds to the network's existing locations in Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Toronto, Mexico, Miami, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Madrid. 

"Our dream of bringing our bravery to Asia is now a reality. We are thrilled to announce that GUT has officially arrived in Singapore," said GUT Singapore in a statement seen by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE.

"We couldn’t be more excited to open our doors in this iconic city that has been pushing the boundaries of creativity, technology, and design. We are proud to be a part of one of the most influential and progressive creative communities shaping our industry and driving culture," it added. 

With this expansion, GUT Singapore aims to become one of the most diverse, creative and influential agencies in Asia and beyond, it added in its statement. 

The Singapore office will be led by Jess Davey as managing director. Davey was previously senior vice president, head of clients of Media.Monks Asia-Pacific and chief marketing officer and director of creative excellence Asia-Pacific at McCann Worldgroup Asia Pacific.

Prior to that she was a global clients director at Geometry Global, global managing partner - Unilever brand/activation at Ogilvy & Mather and global brand developer director at OgilvyAction London. 

Her other roles include regional business director of Asia Pacific at Ogilvy and Mather Asia Pacific and business director for Greater China at Nitro. 

"I am so thrilled to be bringing GUT’s ambition of being one of the most creatively influential and diverse networks in the world to Asia, one of the most innovative, dynamic and exciting regions in the world," said Davey in a LinkedIn statement. 

"I am so grateful to be working in a network that loves its people, its work and its clients and lives that philosophy every day in every way," added Davey. 

Alongside Davey, is Carlos Camacho as chief creative officer. Camacho was previously chief creative officer at DAVID Bogota and executive creative director (ECD) at Wunderman Thomspon Amsterdam and Wunderman Thompson Hong Kong. 

He also took on the ECD role at J. Walter Thompson Shanghai, Lowe Asia-Pacific, Mullen Lowe Group. 

Prior to that he was a creative director at LOWE SSP3 and creative copy writer at Y&R. He started his career as an accounts and creative intern at McCann Erickson Colombia, according to his LinkedIn. 

In tandem, Belynda Sim-Mak joins GUT Singapore as head of strategy, Liz Leow as account lead and Meyvi Wedelia as creative director.

GUT is not the only agency to expand into Asia with a Singapore office this year. Earlier in July, verbal branding agency Reed Words opened a new office in Singapore, marking its entrance into the Asia Pacific region.

The Singapore office adds to the agency's existing locations in London and New York City. 

Reed Words' expertise covers naming, brand voice and messaging, brand strategy and all manner of copywriting including campaigns, packaging, websites and film.
