Buy now pay later brand Atome has hired Gary Yeoh (pictured) as general manager, to lead Atome into its next phase of growth in Malaysia. With over 20 years’ experience in retail and financial and payment sectors, Yeoh will be instrumental in spearheading Atome’s growth in Malaysia.

Before joining Atome, Yeoh was previously the country manager for Fave Malaysia, where he oversaw its business growth and operations. Atome launched in Malaysia in the last quarter of 2020 and now collaborates with over 3,000 merchant partners, including ZALORA, Agoda, Sephora, Watsons, Switch, Machines, Decathlon, Senheng, ALDO, SHEIN, Bjak and Mydin.

In the first half of 2022 alone, Atome Malaysia added the Malay language feature on its app, launched iBNPL partnership with PayHalal, and held Atome-Eid campaign during Ramadan, with a portion of proceeds donated to AWAM (All Women’s Action Society). According to App Annie, it is currently ranked top five in the shopping category by downloads in Malaysia.

Yeoh said, “I’m very excited to join and build on Atome Malaysia’s exciting momentum as the leading BNPL brand in Malaysia. We have a list of exciting brand partners to announce in the coming months and we’ll continue to drive value for our merchant partners across Malaysia.”

He added that the firm will continue to enhance the customer experience as the most flexible way to shop, pay and earn throughout the shopping journey.

In June this year, Atome unveiled a new video that promotes genderless fashion and encourages people to express themselves and dress however they want. Featuring brand ambassadors and K-pop boyband ASTRO, the video is titled "Own Your Expression" and sees the members getting ready to film a commercial. The six members then rotate among different outfits throughout the video, further enforcing the campaign's tagline "Own Your Expression". ASTRO was appointed brand ambassador in October 2021.

Meanwhile, the firm appointed BBDO Singapore as the regional creative agency for 2022 April this year.
