Airstar Bank names Hu Wei as new chief executive

Virtual bank Airstar Bank has promoted Hu Wei, Justin to chief executive with immediate effect, succeeding Ronald Iu, who has left the bank earlier this year. Hu is currently the chief strategy officer and executive director of the bank.

The Board welcomes Hu to his new role, according to the release. Airstar Bank is confident that with Hu's expertise in financial innovation, he will lead the bank to inject new momentum into financial technology and financial inclusion, hence developing more competitive and innovative banking services and products in the future to serve the mass with better banking services.

Before joining Airstar Bank, Hu was the general manager of the financial institution department of Airstar Digital Technology under Xiaomi Group, responsible for business joint venture and operational management of internet financing, asset Securitisation, and development of fintech projects with banks, securities firms, and trust companies.

Between 2007 and 2018, Hu held senior management roles in different finance companies including Huaan Fund Management, China Asset Management, and China International Fund Management. He was responsible for the innovative development of internet funds and wealth management in these firms and accumulated extensive management experience in internet-based asset management business.

Back in 2020, Airstar Bank has appointed Ronald Iu as chief executive. lu has more than 20 years of experience in the banking and finance industry, holding positions in senior management for over ten years. He has extensive experiences ranging from risk management, sales and marketing to the development of new fintech products.

Since joining Airstar Bank as alternate chief executive in December 2019, Iu has been leading the team to execute various important initiatives, including setting up its business development strategy, designing the blueprint for building product lines, and defining different commercial imperatives and action plans.
