On-demand logistics technology platform Zeek has reportedly delayed couriers’ wages, according to HK01.
A self-employed courier under Zeek told HK01 that his salary has been paid at irregular intervals since September 2022, of which his wages of the past two months are in arrears, ranging from HK$20,000 to $30,000. He said all Zeek couriers are facing delay in salaries.
The courier said he was informed there would be a delay in his salary payment but the company did not state the reason behind the delay. Zeek recently explained that the delay was due to its system update, which is expected to complete by 18 November.
MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to Zeek for a statement. Meanwhile, Zeek said its current financial status is stable and the update of the financial system takes longer than they expected. Zeek promised to pay all wages as soon as possible, said the report.
Zeek isn't the first delivery platform that faces heat over wage issues. Back in October this year, food delivery platform foodpanda Hong Kong clarified that the new mapping system for its couriers was not launched with the intention to reduce overall service fees, after some of its couriers’ called on a strike over unreasonable wage cut.
This came as over a thousand of foodpanda couriers went on strike in Hong Kong over a new map system on 15 and 16 October 2022, which they claimed the food delivery platform has proposed to reduce distance fees for delivery workers. The strike was to be followed by a five-day industrial action during which they would boycott orders from the company’s on-demand grocery service Pandamart, if there is no satisfying response from the company, according to a spokesperson of the strike at a public press conference.
