Johan Buse (pictured), chief of consumer business group at StarHub Singapore, has stepped down after nearly seven years with the company. In conversations with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, a StarHub spokesperson confirmed that chief executive officer (CEO) Nikhil Eapen will oversee the consumer business group in the interim, supported by key members of the executive committee.
The spokesperson said that Buse has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s consumer business, driving innovation, and enhancing customer experiences.
"His contributions have been instrumental in solidifying StarHub’s leadership in broadband and entertainment and reinforcing its strong market position in mobile," the spokesperson added.

In a LinkedIn post, Buse shared a motivational message celebrating the StarHub team's achievements and encouraging continued progress. He also highlighted the company's successes, including becoming number one in entertainment, strong positions in broadband and mobile, and improved customer satisfaction.
Buse credited the team's passion and strategic efforts and urged the company to keep innovating and pushing boundaries while prioritising customers.
He brought 19 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, having worked across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. He previously served as Ooredoo’s chief commercial officer, overseeing marketing, sales, and customer experience for mobile, fixed, and new businesses.
Prior to that, he was VP of consumer marketing at Singtel for around three years, according to his LinkedIn. He also held senior roles at Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile) and Axis (STC).
According to a statement seen by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Buse has left his role at StarHub to become the chief executive officer (CEO) at Banglalink, VEON’s digital operator in Bangladesh, effective 6 April. Johan succeeds Erik Aas who has made the decision to move on from Banglalink after nine years.
Commenting on the appointment, Kaan Terzioglu, CEO of VEON Group said, "I welcome Johan to the VEON family and Banglalink team. With decades of experience across multiple emerging markets, he is well positioned to accelerate our digital expansion and our contributions to the growth of the Bangladesh economy."
Echoing similar sentiments, Buse said, "I very much look forward to taking over the leadership baton from Erik and having the privilege to lead Banglalink at this important time where the future is filled with customer-focused value creating opportunities. As Bangladesh goes through a historic period of change, transforming the digital landscape of the country by equipping the people of Bangladesh with highly demanded digital and connectivity services is more important than ever."
"We have a great opportunity to leverage VEON’s digital expertise and the skills of Banglalink’s world-class team to accelerate the efforts to bridge the digital divide, foster innovation and create opportunities that will positively impact the lives of millions in Bangladesh. I am looking forward to realising these opportunities with our team and our customers," he added.
Buse's departure follows StarHub's recent appointment of TBWA as its creative agency in 2024. The partnership kicked off with an International Women's Day (IWD) film that put the spotlight on the contributions of women in the tech space with "nobile technology".
