The White House has welcomed 100 digital content creators and industry professionals on Wednesday to share insights about the “creator economy” with key officials, as well as the pressing issues within the space such as privacy, fair pay, AI and mental health.
At the White House Creator Economy Conference (WHCEC), which is the first-ever event hosted by the White House’s office of digital strategy, the US president Joe Biden told influencers they are the future.
“You are the new possibilities. You are the breakthrough in how we communicate,” he said. “And that’s why I invited you to the White House, because I’m looking for a job.”
Top officials including deputy treasury secretary Wally Adeyemo and White House domestic policy advisor Neera Tanden, also appeared at the conference.
The “creator economy” has been gaining traction and is expected to double in size over the next five years to US$480 billion by 2027 from US$250 billion today, according to Eric Sheridan, senior equity research analyst, Goldman Sachs.
Goldman Sachs research said global creators are expected to grow at a 10-20% compound annual growth rate during the next five years.
The creator economy in Asia continues to rise in importance and relevance, with no signs of slowing down. Now worth more than US$104 billion, this trend signals a seismic shift in consumers’ discovery, shopping and decision-making journeys.
