WeChat Pay HK has further expanded its merchant network across the Chinese mainland, enabling Hongkongers to spend with WeChat Pay HK in mainland China without transaction fees.
While WeChat Pay HK’s expansion of its merchant network covers all cities in China, users can pay in Hong Kong dollars (HKD) across both online and offline merchants. The transaction amount in Renminbi (RMB) will automatically convert to HKD.
In a conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Ada Lau, brand director, WeChat Pay HK, said that the expansion aims to provide Hong Kong residents with unparalleled convenience and accessibility when spending in mainland China. “We aim to simplify cross-border transactions, ensuring Hong Kong users can shop, dine, and pay with ease using Hong Kong dollar, leveraging our extensive network of mainland merchants.”
In terms of ROI measurement, Lau said it is assessed through increased transaction volume and frequency in cross-border spending while assessing customer retention rates. “Additionally, we evaluate user sentiment through customer service feedback, media coverage, and social media discussion,” she added.
When it comes to marketing strategies, Lau said the expansion focuses on educating Hong Kong residents about the benefits and ease of using HKD e-wallet for cross-border payments.
This includes targeted campaigns at border points such as Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau, collaborations with online platforms such as Meituan to offer giveaways and deals, sponsorship to travel shows, and promotions highlighting zero transaction fees and increased transaction limits.
“By showcasing real-world applications, we aim to solidify WeChat Pay HK as the top choice for Hong Kong residents travelling in the mainland. We’re also excited to see our strategy fostering stronger user engagement and reinforcing trust in our brand,” Lau said.
