Joyce Tan is stepping down as UNIQLO Singapore's marketing director. She joined the team in 2020 from Pizza Hut where she led marketing for Singapore. As UNIQLO Singapore's marketing director, Tan (pictured) is in charge of the overall management and leadership of the marketing and communications department.
Tan has more than 20 years of experience in brand management, product innovation and omnichannel retail marketing. Aside from UNIQLO and Pizza Hut, Tan has also worked at Yum! Brands, The Body Shop, Kimberly-Clark, Levi Strauss & Co., Diageo, and Coca-Cola. UNIQLO declined to comment on MARKETING-INTERACTIVE's queries.
During her time at UNIQLO, the brand launched several initiatives including the recent pop-up store done in partnership with Dough at CHIJMES. Its ION Orchard flagship store also has an expansive femcare aisle and a dedicated revamped fitting room where LifeWear for Her product specialists are stationed to recommend the right products and fit for women.
In May, the Japanese apparel retailer launched Stylehint in Singapore, a new mobile app where customers can upload photos of items they love and match them to similar UNIQLO styles. Stylehint also enables UNIQLO LifeWear fans to swap styling suggestions and shop curated looks posted by fellow fashion-focused members of this worldwide digital community. Meanwhile, in July, UNIQLO launched 10 new designs for its charity T-shirt project from UT, PEACE FOR ALL, which uses T-shirts as a blank canvas for everyone to express their individuality. The project aims to raise funds to support peace efforts by selling T-shirts with designs that convey a desire for peace.
Separately, the UNIQLO brand itself is a hit among Singaporean consumers and was ranked by YouGov as the second most recommended brand in Singapore this year. Last year, UNIQLO and Adidas topped the charts as the best fashion retailer in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. According to YouGov’s Retail Rankings 2021 in these three Southeast Asian countries, UNIQLO had a YouGov Index score of 47.7 in Singapore, while adidas scored 39.7 and 47.3 in Malaysia and Indonesia respectively.
