Emily Tan, former associate marketing director at Klook Travel, has joined ShopBack Malaysia, as its head of marketing. Tan (pictured) told A+M that she will be responsible for assisting users to navigate the sales dates and deals with the different brands. Tan will be reporting to the general manager of ShopBack Malaysia, Eddy Han.
As head of marketing for ShopBack Malaysia, Tan said her vision for this role was to introduce the eCommerce company's value to its users, with a goal of ensuring that they have a fruitful shopping experience with additional savings. Tan added that she aims to continue empowering consumers with the company's "suite of innovative features" that would enable them to make better purchase decisions.
With more than eight years of experience under her belt, Tan is a marketing and product specialist in the travel and tech-centric market, said her LinkedIn. As Klook's associate marketing director, Tan was required to harness the marketing and creative talents within her team to deliver impactful growth efforts. Additionally, she had to develop strategic partnerships with the company's aim of enabling Malaysians to seamlessly discover and book the best experiences, anywhere in the world, said her LinkedIn.
Before Klook Travel, Tan was the senior marketing manager at AirAsia Malaysia for a year, where she was responsible for the achievement of revenue targets and marketing objectives of markets across the APAC region. Tan initially joined AirAsia Malaysia in August 2014, taking on the product manager role at group ancillary for five months. In that role, she managed the portfolios of core ancillary products for the airline including baggage, seats, and insurance. She also executed projects to optimise product features and evaluated new opportunities to drive incremental revenue for the company.
Tan then moved on to helm the marketing manager role in January 2015 for close to two years. According to her LinkedIn, Tan managed an annual marketing budget of more than RM5 million when she was the marketing manager. Aside from that, Tan was also required to execute strategic and market development initiatives with a network of partners to ensure ROI is continually optimised to meet load factor and revenue targets.
ShopBack Malaysia recently tied up with Penang Global Tourism to offer cashback on hotel bookings in Penang. Through this partnership, travellers can get up to 40% cashback when they book their stay on Booking.com through ShopBack on 6 December 2021. According to ShopBack, the most popular hotels in Penang are located around Georgetown, Batu Ferringhi, Bayan Lepas, Bukit Mertajam, and Perai.
Since the announcement of the interstate travel ban removal, Han said the eCommerce platform saw an increase in the daily number of travel bookings to be more than twice the usual volume. "Penang has always been one of the top three domestic travel destinations, therefore the company is thrilled to team up with Booking.com and Penang Global Tourism to present 40% cashback to its consumers," said Han. Han added that this was the highest travel cashback ShopBack Malaysia has offered to its users since the pandemic hit.
Meanwhile, in Singapore, ShopBack launched a search for a head of marketing, who will be responsible for demand growth and user development funnels on both existing and new business initiatives within ShopBack Singapore. According to the job post on LinkedIn, the opening comes as ShopBack looks to expand its team across the APAC region. According to the job description, some of the expected responsibilities of a marketing head include developing a comprehensive and aligned strategic marketing plan to drive awareness, customer acquisition, growth, and retention; as well as evaluating and reporting on campaign performance to relevant stakeholders, including providing regular management reporting to inform the organisation’s performances.
