Sarawak green energy projects key to Malaysia's economic growth, says Anwar

Sarawak has the potential to attract foreign investment and become one of Malaysia's economic catalysts in the future. This is due to its green energy projects, prime minister Anwar Ibrahim reportedly said.
The prime minister reportedly said that Miri, a city in Sarawak, is now the focus of countries that want to invest in green technology as it is developing a 500MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant. With investment, Miri will become an energy hub for the region, added Anwar.
Anwar made these comments at the opening ceremony of the Sarawakku Sayang Madani Rakyat Programme in Miri on 28 September, reported Malay Mail.

Other developments within Sarawak include the upgrading of health clinics, especially in rural areas, and refurbishing of clinics, Anwar reportedly said.
Anwar also reportedly gave out financial aid from the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) to several recipients in Miri. It was reported that the government received 28,944 applicants, with donations channeled through the bank.
At the same time, the prime minister distributed Sejati Madani Contribution to communities of northern Sarawak, reported The Borneo Post.
Earlier in July this year, the minister reportedly said that the implementation of a more effective, organised and systemic energy transition and green investment is "very necessary" to raise the image, reputation and attractiveness of Malaysia. This is in line with the focus to make Malaysia a major regional green investment destination and hub, he added.
The prime minister chaired the National Investment Council Meeting in July, where strategic plans to increase green investments were touched upon. The meeting also assessed and agreed on an action plan to improve the country's competitive position.
According to Anwar, this effort is expected to boost the country's position in the Institute for Management Development's (IMD) World Competitiveness Index Report.
