Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) has formed strategic partnerships with Hong Kong healthcare firms including Amber Medical and Swindon Medical, to further enhance the healthcare travel experience for travellers from Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area to Malaysia.
In the past decade, Malaysia welcomed more than 3,000 healthcare travellers from Hong Kong in 2022, including patients seeking services in areas such as cardiology, fertility, oncology, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, premium health screening, amongst others. As such, MHTC aims to offer a viable alternative for travellers seeking healthcare treatments abroad.
With Amber's experience in providing different medical transport and medical assistance, plus travel and logistics arrangements, this partnership enables healthcare travellers to do online consultation with MHTC’s members hospitals’ doctors and arrange end-to-end services of their trip to Malaysia, until their treatment is completed.
Meanwhile, Swindon offers services namely in diagnostics through imaging, fertility, egg freezing, comprehensive health screening and cross border medical treatment, according to the release. With this partnership, Swindon will assist patients who require further treatments by referring them to Malaysia as an option for treatment as well as establish patient referral funnels, from both Hong Kong and China.
To enhance the overall patient experience, Malaysia Healthcare provides a dedicated concierge service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, klia2, and Penang International Airport (PIA). Upon arrival, a dedicated team will greet patients at the aerobridge and facilitate their immigration process, benefitting from a dedicated lane for healthcare travellers. Additionally, as part of this ecosystem, Malaysia Healthcare offers the innovative eVisa medical platform, providing healthcare travellers with a faster and more efficient process for applying for medical visas and visa extensions.
Council acting chief executive Farizal Jaafar (pictured second left) said: "We are confident that by empowering our agents and building strong partnerships, we can foster productive relationships among all parties involved and enhance the patient experience, collaboratively. We are extremely appreciative to all our partners and stakeholders who have joined us on this inaugural venture. We look forward to seizing the immense opportunities before us and work hand in hand to create stronger ties for healthcare travellers from Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area."
