The Ministry of Communications and Information will be renamed as the Ministry of Digital Development and Information.

The name change will take effect from 8 July 2024.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the name change reflects the ministry’s role in driving Singapore’s national digital agenda.

The ministry will also continue to oversee information policy and strategy, media development and public communications efforts, it said.

Alongside the name change are promotions within the new Cabinet. This includes Gan Kim Yong’s promotion to Deputy Prime Minister and Low Yen Ling, Desmond Tan and Rahayu Mahzam’s promotions to senior minister of state.

Earlier this year, the ministry released a five-part documentary web-series that aims to chronicle the 18-month long Forward SG exercise.

Titled "Let’s Begin: The Forward SG Story", the series takes viewers on-ground and behind the scenes with Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and members of the Cabinet who form part of the fourth generation (4G) leadership team.

The FSG exercise engaged more than 200,000 Singaporeans to discuss important issues that will impact Singapore’s next bound of nation building. These include topics such as housing, the Singapore identity, economy and jobs, success, ageing, and the environment.
