McCafe Malaysia gives a modern twist to late Malaysian legend Saloma’s song Kopi Susu in partnership with Leo Burnett Malaysia. The song titled Vibe Kopi Susu (Coffee With Milk Vibes) is produced and co-written by rapper SonaOne and features a reimagined instrumentation of Saloma’s song with her vocals layered with that of singer, actress and artist Daiyan Trisha and SonaOne.

Vibe Kopi Susu was produced with Malaysian listeners from all walks of life in mind and aims to celebrate the fusion of musical talent and the rich cultural flavour of Malaysia while highlighting how traditional and contemporary sounds can come together.

“As new generations emerge and preferences continue to evolve, one thing you can be sure of is that all Malaysians love their ‘Kopi Susu’ anytime of the day, whether it is for breakfast, tea or during a late-night snack,” said Neil Hudspeth, CEO of Publicis Groupe Malaysia and global client leader for Asia Pacific.

Hudspeth also added that Saloma’s song was used to give Malaysians the chance to reminisce and feel a sense of nostalgia when they listen to an iconic Malay tune from the early post-independence era and be reminded of McCafe as their go-to when they need a caffeine fix.

Clips from Saloma’s live performances make an appearance in the music video that was released for the collaborative song and sees Daiyan Trisha and SonaOne groove to the beat while enjoying their coffee drinks at a McCafe diner.

"We wanted to create a melody that was fresh and relevant to today's ears, while still paying tribute to the nuances of Saloma's music," explained SonaOne.

"The inspiration was right there - Kopi Susu is a well-loved Malaysian drink for generations, and McCafe's touch adds a whole new vibe, a new 'rasa' that is both timeless and current. The song is essentially that - a rich blend of classic and modern tastes," added SonaOne.

McDonald's is no stranger to creating catchy music as advertisements as McDonald’a Indonesia recently collaborated with creative agency Leo Burnett to create an unsuspecting Japanese pop earworm to promote the relaunch of its Taste of Japan burgers featuring crispy nori and Yakiniku sauce.

The song, Nihon No Freeba, was sung by Indonesian-Japanese singer Ica Zahra as a single without any subtitles and has performed well on the country’s music and Shazam charts, according to a statement by the company.
