Apart from the Chinese New Year festivities and celebration across the region, we also witnessed prominent names stepping down from their respective roles this week and Malaysia's new advertising agency with a familiar face leading its creative team.

1. Wavemaker SG MD Zachary Lim steps down from role

Wavemaker Singapore managing director Zachary Lim (pictured) has stepped down from the role. As managing director, Lim was responsible for driving the agency's growth as well as oversee operations, country-wide strategy, client leadership and people management, according to his LinkedIn.
Lim has been with Wavemaker for just over seven years, first taking on the role of general manager in December 2017 before rising through the ranks as its deputy managing director in April 2018 and later managing director in February 2019.
In conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Lim expressed his appreciation to GroupM, saying "GroupM gave me opportunities even though I was green behind the ears. They supported my beliefs, visions and guided me. It's allowed me to shine in my role as Wavemaker's managing director."

2. New agency Luminous Labs launches in MY, hires SP Lee as creative director

Luminous Labs, a new advertising agency launching in Malaysia, has appointed ad veteran SP Lee as its creative director. Lee has over 30 years of experience in the industry, and was most recently the founder of Pocket Stories, providing brand consultancy and AV production.
Pocket Stories first launched in 2020 and focuses on branded content, pocket documentaries and ads. In conversation with A+M at the time, Lee said that competition for attention is harder and that getting a few seconds of someone's attention is a major accomplishment. “Pocket Stories comes from the fact that the first thing we turn to for stories in this thing in our pocket. Those ten of so square inches of screen on our mobiles is really the most expensive real estate in the world. Everyone wants a piece of it," said Lee.

3. Unilever veteran marketer Chiradeep Gupta exits after 13 years

Chiradeep Gupta (pictured), vice president, personal care head of media and digital and global integrated media strategy lead of Unilever has stepped down after 13 years with the company.
In a LinkedIn post, Gupta said that he is closing the chapter with immense gratitude for the learning and growth, as well as the "opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people."
"You are only as good as your team, and I had the privilege of always having amazing individuals around who taught me so much. We had our wins, losses, good times, not-so-good times but we always had fun," said Gupta.
