Maxim's and Towngas team up to promote low-carbon seasonal menu

Maxim's Group and Towngas have teamed up again to launch the "WeGen x Local Ginger" initiative, following their eco-innovative project "Inter-plant Waste-to-energy System" last year.

This new initiative incorporates regenerative farming (WeGen farming) and locally sourced, high-quality produce.

As part of the initiative, chefs across nearly 40 local Maxim’s outlets, including Chinese, Western, Japanese, and quick-service restaurants, will craft healthy seasonal dishes.

These dishes are designed to offer delicious, low-carbon, and environmentally friendly dining options to patrons in Hong Kong.

Additionally, patrons will have opportunities to attend conservation talks at The Grand Aquarium in Ocean Park and win snorkeling experiences and tickets. “Towngas Fun” members can also enjoy "WeGen x Local Ginger" themed dishes at discounted rates.

This comes in line with Maxim's "WeGen farming" initiative in collaboration with local farms, converting pre-consumed food waste into enzymes that foster crop growth without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilisers.

This method perserves the natural flavours and nutrients of the ingredients while employing eco-friendly farming practices that improve water and soil conservation, enhance soil nutrients, and maintain biodiversity.

Maxim's chefs use these “WeGen” and sustainably farmed products, employing flame cooking techniques to highlight their natural nutrition and flavours.

By incorporating regenerative farming and local ingredients, the initiative significantly reduces carbon emissions generated during food production and transportation, thereby minimising the overall environmental footprint.

The "WeGen x Local Ginger" initiative further intensifies efforts by sourcing more high-quality local vegetables from regenerative farms and the Vegetable Marketing Organization to provide customers with more low-carbon meal options.

Keith Siu, chief operating officer (Hong Kong & Macau) of Maxim's Group, stated, “By launching the ‘WeGen x Local Ginger’ initiative with Towngas, we are leveraging our combined strengths to promote the sustainable practices and environmental responsibility, while providing our customers with high-quality, healthy food options. This initiative creates a beneficial impact for customers, local farmers, the environment, and the wider community.”

Don Cheng, head of commercial, HK utility/head of sustainable green energy hub of The Hong Kong and China Gas Company, said, “In addition to the pioneering inter-plant carbon reduction initiative in Hong Kong, the adoption of Towngas' high-efficiency gas stoves and equipment at a number of Maxim’s restaurants also makes us close partners. We will continue to support high-quality local ingredients and tell good stories about Hong Kong with local ingredients.”

To further promote healthy, low-carbon dining and sustainable development, Maxim's has also collaborated with Ocean Park for the "WeGen x Local Ginger" initiative by encouraging public participation in marine conservation education.

From 22 July to 1 September, the top 50 Eatizen members who accumulate the highest eligible spending on "WeGen x Local Ginger" dishes at designated Maxim's Chinese restaurants will each receive two Ocean Park standard admission tickets.

From 1 to 31 August, guests who order "WeGen x Local Ginger" dishes at Maxim's MX and register their receipts through Eatizen can win a chance to participate in Ocean Park's marine conservation talks.

Attendees will explore "The Grand Aquarium", engage in customised interactive games, and gain a deeper understanding of marine environmental protection.
