In response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, Marco Polo Hotels Hong Kong (MPHK) has initiated several corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects.

These CSR projects will involve more than 300 staff members from 16 of Marco Polo’s hotel departments, taking over 1,000 man-days to complete.

Most notably, the hotel chain has researched, tested, and produced reusable handmade fabric masks for internal use at its business. So far, MPHK has distributed a total of 1,200 fabric masks to its staff and also delivered masks - both surgical and fabric - to adults and children at its longtime partner,  the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF).

Hundreds of colouring books have also been designed, produced, and sent to CCF children, with another hundred sets being sent to the Heep Hong Society later this month.

Furthermore, MPHK is cooperating with Soap Recycling - a non-profit organisation that works with the hospitality industry - to collect and process lightly-used soap bars and bottled amenities. 60 hotel staff will take part in the recycling process, with recycled soaps being distributed to disadvantaged communities in Asia. In addition to these activities, 80 of the hotel chain’s staff members have volunteered to clean up litter along popular hiking routes.

Dalip Singh, general manager of Marco Polo Hotels Hong Kong said, “It is more blessed to give than receive. We fully support our associates to take part in these meaningful CSR projects to make Hong Kong a better place to live. I am extremely proud to see our team exercise the Marco Polo spirit, to maintain us as sustainable corporate citizens in the community and environment. We wish everyone good health and let’s join hands in overcoming these tough times and to build a promising future.”

Lastly, taking advantage of the lull in travel and other precautionary consideration, MPHK will be running a series of cross-functional training workshops to provide staff with improved skills to use when normal business resumes after the novel coronavirus crisis situation has passed.
