The Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) has promoted Jwan Heah to CMO with immediate effect. He will be reporting directly to CEO and owner Michael Tio, who took full ownership of the MBR brand in 2016. At the same time, sales and marketing manager, Aaron Bong, has been promoted to deputy GM of marketing.
Heah (pictured left) is tasked with leading the organisation in its renewed direction and marketing focused approach. He said that this renewed direction will allow greater autonomy in working with Tio, and allow MBR to execute Tio’s vision for the brand. Meanwhile, Bong (pictured right) will work closely with Heah to help brands realise and capitalise on their national record achievements.
Heah joined MBR in 2019 as the director of business development, bringing in client servicing experience to the company. According to his LinkedIn profile, he oversaw marketing and sales, including the development of strategic communications that would lead to a positive repetitioning of the brand. Additionally, Heah led the marketing team for campaigns including overseeing the concept, design, copywriting, publication, PR, and sponsorship aspects. He also led the development of the organisation's mid and long term commercial priorities and action plans.
As business development director, Heah and the team revamped operational procedures, created new systems, improved customer service and increased marketing efforts. He moved on to the role of marketing director in 2020 and was in charge of all marketing and sales efforts, including the development of communication approach across all touchpoints that led to a positive repositioning of the brand.
Bong joined MBR in 2019 as events and corporate communications manager, before assuming the role of sales and marketing manager in 2021. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has worked on brand activations, events, sponsorships, cross-branding, PR, roadshows, social media, digital, networking and PR.
“I’m enthused and very grateful for his opportunity, and am definitely looking forward to creating fresh campaigns for MBR and working collaboratively with brands in executing some extraordinary projects,” said Heah.
Meanwhile, Bong said there are plenty of SMEs in Malaysia doing remarkable things but due to the lack of marketing, they never receive the recognition and exposure they deserve. "We want to be more than just a certification body and book publisher; we want to help deserving brands engage with their intended audience through unique ways and with an extraordinary message,” he added.
