The Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) has appointed Christopher Wong (pictured left) as CEO and has promoted its chief marketing officer Jwan Heah (pictured right) to chief operating officer as the company gears up for greater growth and more projects.

Wong, who was named the COO of MBR in 2018, will take over the reins from MBR’s previous CEO Michael Tio who will transition to the role of chairman of the MBR Board.

Prior to joining MBR in 2015, Wong was a partner at legal practice firm Messrs Cheang & Ariff and is currently a senior consultant with Chur Associates.

In Heah’s new role as COO, he will be tasked with overseeing both the marketing and operations of MBR.

Heah first joined MBR in 2019 as its marketing director and was promoted to the CMO position in 2022 after a successful pivot strategy during the MCO phase that ensured the company’s profitability, said MBR in a statement.

As the CMO, Heah unofficially focused his efforts on operations where he developed and enforced policies along with standard operating procedures on top of marketing initiatives.

“We have to get better internally first before we can serve externally,” he said.

“It has not been easy trying to revamp a division that is not officially under your purview, and the team and I faced many obstacles but they believed in such changes and the extraordinary results encouraged the team to continue on their quest,” explained Heah.

As part of their marketing campaigns, brands such as WONDA Coffee have entered the MBR to generate buzz in Malaysia.

As part of its Malaysia Day campaign, WONDA Coffee had the longest Kopi Tarik Line during this year’s edition of Keretapi Sarong 2023 (KS2023), which was a flashmob activity aimed at unifying Malaysians.

In partnership with Locco Malaysia, an organisation known for promoting Malaysia’s cultural mosaic through an annual Keretapi Sarong event, Wonda set out to celebrate Malaysians' shared culture, history and traditions.
