Malaysian Aviation Group (MAG) has tied up with Buy Now Pay Later platform, hoolah, to provide a seamless and convenient payment option for travellers. Through this collaboration, travellers in Malaysia and Singapore are able to book their getaway online with Malaysia Airlines and pay via a flexible three-month, interest-free payment option. While this option would be available for Hong Kong soon, MAG did not give any insights as to when it would commence.
According to MAG, this partnership came at an opportune time as Malaysia recently announced the reopening of its borders on 1 April 2022, following a two-year closure brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. A+M has reached out to MAG for additional information regarding the partnership.
Additionally, MAG has launched hoolah’s BNPL offering on Journify, its integrated one-stop travel and lifestyle digital platform. The Group recently launched a new Journify mobile app on iOS and Android last week. Through the app, consumers are able to discover places of interest, plan bespoke experiences and shop for products and services in the app's marketplace. Anchoring on travel and lifestyle, Journify currently offers a personalised travel experience solution that allows consumers to have easy access to information and knowledge.
Currently, Journify is focusing on merchants related to travel lifestyle and locally developed products and services. In its "Local Favourites" section, it features homegrown companies and products such as Penan bags, batik clothing, Trapo car accessories and local food and beverages. At the same time, it has also collaborated with craft store, Karyaneka to promote local artisans to travellers. Now with this partnership, customers are able shop seamlessly for products and services, and conveniently pay later.
"This marks our first-of-its-kind partnership with a BNPL provider in Asia, and it couldn’t be timelier as we anticipate growing demands for travel with the reopening of our borders soon," said Malaysia Airlines' group marketing and customer experience officer, Lau Yin May.
Similarly, hoolah's CEO and co-founder, Arvin Singh agreed on the merits of the partnership. "We are thrilled to be partnering with Malaysia Aviation Group in Asia and support their business objectives as we push forward together to accelerate the recovery and growth of the travel and tourism industry. As countries in the region gradually open up their borders, we look forward to making travel more accessible and affordable for travellers, along with the flexibility to pay for their holiday overtime," Singh explained.
