Malaysia Airlines brand and marcomms lead TJ Chan joins Astro

Malaysia Airlines' (MAB) head of brand and marketing communications, Chan Tjun Keat, has taken on the new role of senior assistant vice president, strategic marketing, Astro Group Marketing, according to his LinkedIn. He spent more than three years with the airline, joining the commercial department in February 2017.
Prior to MAB, Chan was with Havas Worldwide as business head where he managed all the traditional and digital marketing business for clients such as GSK, Danone, Sunquick, Energizer, RHB and Carlsberg, according to his LinkedIn. Before that, he was the group account manager at Hakuhodo Malaysia and oversaw clients such as Panasonic, KAO Facial Care, MSIG Insurance, Rinnai Kitchen Appliances and Japan Airlines. Chan served on the agency side in a creative role for more than 17 years, managing clients from a variety of industries including FMCG, electronic, automotive, retail and many more other industries. A+M has reached out to Astro and MAB for comment.
Separately earlier this year, Astro witnessed former Initiative Malaysia MD Kristine Ong join its ranks as vice president of Astro Media Solutions after four years with the agency. Last month, Desmond Ngai, former senior vice president, global alliances at WebTVAsia, joined Astro as senior assistant vice president, business lead for OTT partnerships after more than five years with the company.
Recently, Astro premiered local films directly to consumers' homes on Astro First. It also made the Astro Ultra Box available to Astro IPTV customers, enabling them to stream all channels including 4K UHD Channel and On Demand content. According to the company, the Ultra Box had over 60,000 installations since launch in November 2019. Customers with the Ultra Box are apparently showing higher engagement with 80% of them consuming on demand titles, Astro added.
