Health soap brand Lifebuoy is bringing hand hygiene and handwashing into schools with its new "H for handwashing: little hands, bright future" campaign.

Supported by the ministry of education (MOE), ministry of health and Guardian Malaysia, the campaign aims to improve personal hygiene among the youth and is part of a broader initiative to educate children on the importance of handwashing with soap.

As part of the campaign, a demonstration by Dr Aen Saari was held at SK AU Keramat where schoolchildren were taught the importance of washing their hands with soap and how germs are invisible to the eye. Schoolchildren were also taught how to do the seven-step handwashing routine.

"Hand hygiene is a simple yet powerful tool to prevent illness. We are proud to be working closely with MOE and the ministry of health towards a common goal of teaching children alike about the importance of good handwashing habits and protecting them from harmful germs, so they do not miss a single day of school and life's important moments," said Lenny Chuah, head of country, Unilever Malaysia and country business unit lead of personal care in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

Chuah added that the programmes are designed to create a community of care, extending essential hygiene education to not only reinforce good handwashing habits among children, but also to empower teachers to become actively involved in students' development.

"We hope this partnership will continue to make significant strides towards achieving our goal of reaching 1,000,000 students by the year 2025 and raising awareness of the importance of good hand hygiene," said Chuah.

According to a statement seen by A+M, Lifebouy's "H for handwashing" programme targets schools as they play a crucial role in instilling lifelong healthy habits.

The programme modules were co-developed with the ministry of health to ensure accurate knowledge sharing while reducing instances of absenteeism due to illness and promoting better academic performance.

In addition, Guardian Malaysia is supporting the programme by donating Guardian Vitamin C Gummies as part of the care packs.

"At Guardian, we believe in the power of community and the importance of nurturing good health habits from a young age. That’s why we are running the 'Purchase with purpose' campaign with Lifebuoy in our stores to support hygiene education for students in Malaysia," said Chan Shu Chien, category senior manager (personal care), Guardian Malaysia.

"This initiative aligns with our commitment to promoting public health through education and accessible hygiene products. We are proud to be part of this effort and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the lives of these young students," said Chan.

Meanwhile, in Indonesia, Lifebuoy has collaborated with telehealth service Halodoc and the Bandung Health Polytechnic to introduce compact thermometers that come with complimentary access to doctor consultations.

Supported by the brand’s agency Edelman Singapore and Indonesia, the campaign aims to offer communities in Bandung, West Java, a vital lifeline for the early detection of fever symptoms tied to common, yet preventable, ailments such as diarrhoea.

Titled "Sentuhan sehat" (Touch of health), each specially designed Lifebuoy soap pack comes with a reusable thermometer and a QR code affixed to its packaging. Through the QR code, families will be given access to complimentary health consultations with Halodoc's medical professionals.
