Izlyn Ramli has joined Maybank as the head, group corporate affairs and CEO of Maybank Foundation, in the office of the group president chief executive officer. She has nearly 30 years of management experience and a strong professional and personal network. According to her LinkedIn, her last tenure was with the Telekom Malaysia (TM) Group where she served for over 12 years.
In her farewell post on LinkedIn, Ramli (pictured) thanked TM Group for the career she had with them and soon after starting her position at Maybank, thanked the team for the opportunity to add value. At Telekom Malaysia, she was the vice president of group communications from October 2010 to May 2014 after which she took on the role vice president of group brand and communications from June 2014 to March 2021. She then became the vice president of group strategic communications, a role she held until August 2021 before being promoted to director of Yayasan TM and before leaving the company in January this year.
She has served as a member of TM's management committee and group leadership team. Ramli was also a board director for Telekom Sales and Services and sat on the board of trustees for Yayasan TM (YTM).
Ramli also amassed regional experience during her time at Axiata Group, which lasted from August 2008 to September 2010, with its holdings in 10 countries. According to her LinkedIn, her policy work included liaising with external parties such as the government, ministries, regulators, other related agencies and national bodies. At Axiata, she was a key member of the Axiata rebranding team that was also key in crafting Axiata’s corporate responsibility strategy.
During A+M's inaugural PR Asia's conference in Malaysia in 2019, Ramli who is passionate about the world of communications, said communications professionals must be driven by a higher purpose and own set of values.
"Knowing when to act/talk and when not to, with the wisdom to know the difference, is also one of the challenges. Sometimes you can get it wrong, but we are only human. When you do get it right, you have simply done your job," she explained. She added that the level of support at the board of directors and top management and how the rest of the organisation carries the brand and narrative, are key determinants of success for PR.
Ramli also explained that because PR is not a "profit centre", the department often faces budget constraints. "We have to get innovative with whatever we have. It’s a full time 24/7/365 'always on' job, especially in the complex era of waning trust, digital hyper-connectivity and information or data overload," she said.
