Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Singapore government’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) have launched a Joint Innovation Centre (JIC) in Southeast Asia to deepen collaboration and industry innovation. This collaboration aims to advance digital innovation in Singapore by building innovation capabilities and market access opportunities for startups and enterprises using digital technology. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to AWS for more information.

In addition, this initiative from AWS and IMDA will help nurture Singapore’s burgeoning tech space, promote cloud technology across industries, and introduce innovations that help the government to serve its citizens, said the release. The launch of the AWS-IMDA JIC @ PIXEL will be AWS’s JIC in Southeast Asia, serving as an innovation hub for enterprises, startups, and governments in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The centre will be ready in mid-2023 and will serve as an extension of AWS Singapore’s Cloud Innovation Centre (CIC), as well as IMDA’s PIXEL and Open Innovation Platform (OIP) initiatives.

With the AWS Singapore CIC, startups and established companies on the island will gain access to more than 200 featured AWS services to bring their solutions. The AWS-IMDA JIC will be at IMDA's PIXEL Innovation Hub and support Singapore-based technology companies with access to the latest AWS technologies and resources, to create and scale innovative solutions.

Justin Ang, IMDA's assistant chief executive said "We are delighted that IMDA is recognised as a community enabler within Singapore and the region, and PIXEL as an innovation hub for all types of partners to connect and products for global markets. "We look forward to bringing AWS’s resources and networks to our Singapore-based companies under our IMDA Accreditation and IMDA Spark programmes to further accelerate their growth,” Ang said.

“IMDA is excited to collaborate with AWS to set up its JIC in Southeast Asia at IMDA PIXEL, which will serve as a strong platform for startups, enterprises, and governments to improve digitally," Ang added.

Elsie Tan, Singapore country manager, worldwide public sector, AWS, explained that to nurture startups, enterprises, and public sector agencies, it is critical to creating an environment that brings together the latest technology with a network of supportive partners.

“We recognise the quality and growth of the companies under the IMDA Accreditation and IMDA Spark programmes and are excited to collaborate with IMDA to establish the AWS-IMDA Joint Innovation Centre @ PIXEL, to accelerate innovation and drive growth for enterprises and startups in Singapore and across Southeast Asia," Tan added.

Meanwhile, with a goal of mass-educating and enabling its AWS customers, AWS decided to work with Mills agency, which impressed the judges, and scored the gold award for Best Virtual Event (B2B) at MARKETING-INTERACTIVE’s Marketing Events Awards 2021. Additionally, they also clinched the silver award for the Best B2B Brand Experience.

Separately, Jane Perry joined Amazon Web Services (AWS) as emerging market lead, Asia Pacific and Japan. Perry was previously director of global accounts, Asia Pacific, at Geometry Global, first joining the agency in 2017 as MD, Singapore, according to her LinkedIn.

She was promoted to the Asia Pacific role in 2019 to boost its global client initiative across the region, while also overseeing the Singapore operations.
