Hong Kong Airlines (HKA) has joined hands with Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) to give away 1,000 round-trip flight tickets to local students, aiming to empower them through educational travel.
This comes as HKA is launching a new season of its "Embrace the World" (擁抱世界) student sponsorship programme, which serves as the flagship programme of the airline's commitment to corporate social responsibility. The programme has provided 4,000 round-trip tickets to students since its establishment in 2014, according to the release.
While this year marks the 10th anniversary of the programme and a revival after a five-year habitus, HKA has collaborated with AAHK to expand the scope by offering free air tickets to benefit local primary and secondary school students. This initiative aims to enrich their learning beyond the classroom and enable them to broaden their horizons through travel.
Sponsored by AAHK, the flight tickets for this year’s programme are applicable for HKA-operated Beijing and Shanghai routes. They will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Schools participating in this year's programme are required to devise an extracurricular activity for their students and submit a detailed proposal outlining the learning objectives. The activity can be based on themes such as “history and culture”, “innovation and technology”, or “public and social development”.
Upon completion of their travels, the sponsored schools are encouraged to submit travel videos and logs to showcase and share the students' exchange experience and overall journey. This aims to motivate more young people to be innovative and take the first step to embrace the world.
According to HKA, it is committed to continuing its investment in resources and organising more activities that will benefit the local academic community, inviting more individuals to join HKA in exploring the world.
Jeff Sun, chairman of HKA, said: "HKA has been committed to sponsoring students for over a decade, and this reactivation of the sponsorship programmes is a testament to our ongoing pledge to nurture the next generation. We believe that the students will gain inspiration for their personal future development through active participation in field trips and cultural exchanges. We also hope that this programme will foster their creativity and innovation, shaping them into future leaders who will contribute to society. This season, HKA is honoured to collaborate with AAHK to realise this vision."
Vivian Cheung, chief operating officer of AAHK, said: “We are delighted to sponsor this meaningful event. Supported by the central government's 14th five-year plan, HKIA is committed to leveraging its position as a leading international aviation hub to nurture talent for the aviation industry. This programme provides students with unique opportunities to not only deepen their understanding of our motherland and Chinese culture, but also experience the joy of flying. It is our sincere wish that this inspiring experience will motivate the student to develop a career in the aviation industry.”
