HK shopping mall unveils AI robots as service ambassadors
share on
Hong Kong shopping mall apm, a mall under Sun Hung Kai Properties, has launched an AI robotics technology performance that combines cultural arts and modern technology, offering shoppers a unique experience.
Riding on the successful AI robotics technology performance events at Sun Hung Kai's Chinese malls Shanghai IFC, Shanghai iapm, and Nanjing IFC, apm is continuing that momentum by introducing AI technology into the retail environment, offering customers a unique technological experience.
Also known as “AI Robotics Technology Showcase” (AI機械科技大匯演), the performances aimed to promote AI artificial intelligence technology and foster a better understanding of AI among the younger generation as part of the mall’s 20th anniversary celebration.
According to the release, apm is the first mall in Hong Kong to adopt AI technology robots. As part of the campaign, apm featured 50 humanoid mini robots and four robotic dogs performing dances, while also demonstrating various applications of AI humanoid robots and robotic arms, including playing football, participating in chess matches, practicing calligraphy, conducting tea ceremonies, and sorting objects.

To further engage the public with AI, apm has introduced AI humanoid robots as “service ambassadors". They are capable of directly answering customer inquiries, engaging in interactive communication, and functioning as pop-up store managers. They can also guide customers to appropriate retailers, assist with shopping, and help carry items, making the shopping experience more personalised. This serves as a real-world demonstration of the potential for integrating AI technology into retail services.

apm will launch more events to further engage the community and provide experiences that demonstrate the convenience AI brings to everyday life, according to the release.
Christopher Kwok, executive director, Sun Hung Kai Properties, said that the integration of AI technology with human development has become a trend in daily life. As apm positions itself at the forefront of innovation, a series of celebratory events will take place to mark its 20th anniversary, with the first being the "AI Robotics Technology Showcase." Through engaging and dynamic performances, the event aims to connect advanced robotics and AI technology to everyday life, she added.
In tandem, Maureen Fung, executive director, Sun Hung Kai Properties, said that the "AI Robot Ambassadors" not only guide and accompany customers while shopping but also collaborate with individual retailers to serve as pop-up store managers. She added that following the "AI Robotics Technology Showcase" in shopping malls in Shanghai and Nanjing, there was an increase in foot traffic and sales, suggesting that AI improves the customer shopping experience and elevates these malls to top-tier status.
