The marketing and creative industries in Hong Kong are experiencing a transformative phase in 2025, driven by rapid digitalisation and evolving consumer behaviours. The demand for innovative marketing strategies has surged as businesses increasingly leverage digital platforms to engage their audiences.

A survey by Admango reveals that search engine marketing (SEM) ad spending in Hong Kong reached HK$5.3 billion in 2024, representing 15% of the total media share. Among SEM ad spending, text ads represented 87%, while shopping ads made up the remaining 13%. SEM ranked fourth in media market share, trailing behind desktop/mobile, social media, and TV.

Additionally, a report by payment platform Adyen reveals that 75% of Hong Kong consumers shop via social media, averaging seven transactions per month at HKD 4,154.75 each. This underscores the vital role of content and commerce integration in influencing consumer decision-making.

In response to these trends, organisations in Hong Kong are actively seeking digital marketing talent with both technical and creative skills. This demand has driven higher salary ranges for qualified professionals, according to a report by specialist recruitment company Hays. These talents are expected to be able to derive insights from increasingly vast sources of data to help inform their next steps toward enhancing customer engagement and driving sales growth.

Professionals with expertise in digital marketing, eCommerce strategies and data analytics remain in short supply, which is pushing salaries upwards for qualified professionals compared to those still in traditional marketing roles, according to the report.
