Bubble-tea chain Gong Cha has tied up with food delivery service Deliveroo to give away free milk tea to Singaporeans on 30 April, which is also known as National Bubble Tea Day. Happening at One Raffles Place, the event will take place from 11:30am to 7:00pm. Customers will have to download the Deliveroo app to enjoy their free milk tea with any toppings of their choice. They are also encouraged to snap a photo with their free milk tea alongside the Gong Cha mascot, and upload it onto their social media page with the hashtags #foodfreedom and #SGBubbleTeaDay. In addition, customers can also stand to receive a Stojo collapsible cup. Data from Deliveroo has revealed that over the past year, Singaporeans have ordered 385,000 cups of bubble tea. The increasing demand of bubble tea in the country can also be seen in the recent opening of popular Taiwanese bubble tea chains such as Tiger Sugar, Jejudan, and most recently The Alley at Jewel Changi. Amongst the many brands, Gong Cha has been a crowd favourite, seeing a relaunch in 2017, months after its initial stores located in Singapore were rebranded as LiHo. National Bubble Tea Day was first launched in 2018 by Kung Fu Tea. According to the company, it chose 30 April to commemorate the day the bubble tea firm opened its first location. Originated from New York, Kung Fu Tea has also recently entered the shores of Singapore. Read also: Entering SG’s F&B scene: Are international brands biting off more than they can chew?
