Former Gojek CMO Piotr Jakubowski has kick started a “breathe jakarta” project to build products and solutions to help citizens manage their everyday lives in an environment with high air pollution. According to Jakubowski’s (pictured) post on LinkedIn, this comes on the back of declining air quality in Jakarta over the years.

In a LinkedIn post, he said that since 2016, Jakarta’s air quality has declined steeply and studies have shown that it is impacting life expectancy of its citizens. He added that in 2018, the air quality in the city was consistently one of the worst in the world. Meanwhile, Jakubowski is also hiring and looking for talents in Indonesia for his new project. Some of the roles he is keen on hiring are strategy and business development, digital and performance marketing, brand development, research, UX/UI development, product managers, data scientists, as well as front and back-end engineers.

Jakubowski has declined to comment further on Marketing Interactive’s queries.

Jakubowski last helmed the role of chief marketing officer at Indonesian ride hailing company Gojek. He first joined the company in 2016 and has been responsible for leading the company’s consumer marketing initiatives. With the Indonesian company, Jakubowski had focused on growing Gojek into one of the most loved brands in Indonesia, and also drove the strategy to deliver purpose-driven communication.

During his time at the company, Jakubowski led campaigns such as the brand’s billboard campaigns to promote Gojek. The billboards contained long-form copy which could only be read if a person is stuck in traffic for longer than a few minutes.

Prior to Gojek, Jakubowski was head of digital at VML Indonesia for more than two years, where he was responsible for managing the Indonesia operations of VML Asia. He was also part of Y&R Group Indonesia’s senior management team. Before that, he worked at Leo Burnett Worldwide in Indonesia, taking on role such as digital strategist and senior account manager. Jakubowski had worked on clients such as Danone, Adidas, Prudential, Telkom Indonesia, Coca-Cola, Samsung, McDonald’s, Philips, Philip Morris among others during his stints with the agencies.
