Malaysia's communications minister Fahmi Fadzil reportedly suggested social media platforms should label all AI-generated content with an AI tag to prevent unexpected incidents.

He said if the content was produced using Generative AI technology, then it is only right for the platforms to put a label or notification with words such as ‘generated by artificial intelligence’, according to The Star

The minister explained that the government will eventually license all social media platforms, citing all operators should be held responsible for incidents happening on their platforms.

This comes after a local influencer Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, best known as Khairulaming, also took to X to share that he has been a victim of AI deepfake.

In his tweet, Khairul said that his voice has been generated by AI and asked fans to imagine how things can easily become slander in the future. The deepfake Instagram reel video showed Khairul's face and voice promoting the sale of kitchen utensils.

Back in July, Fahmi reportedly urged members of the public to be cautious of scams involving AI-generated deepfakes, as he referenced a scam in which a WhatsApp video call involving Malaysian singer Siti Nurhaliza ended up being a deepfake scam.

Speaking at the ministry of communication's monthly assembly, Fahmi said that while the use of AI helps the country's development, there are some parties who misuse the technology, reported The Star

Fahmi reportedly called on the national news agency Bernama and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) to publicise and educate the public on the dangers of scam tactics using AI deepfakes.
