Doraemon drone show returns to HK with enhanced content

Hong Kong art studio AllRightsReserved (ARR), the organiser of the Doraemon-themed drone show, will introduce the show again on 20 July.

The move came after the first Doraemon drone show saw positive reactions among Hongkongers and tourists.

The drone show will be held over Victoria Harbour, with enhanced content, where 1,000 drones will be transformed once again into various classic Doraemon scenes and styles, creating a visual spectacle for the audience, according to ARR.

Due to the large number of spectators at the debut show, and a section of the Avenue of Stars being transformed into free outdoor exhibition areas with one-way crowd control by then, after communicating with involved departments, the show location will be moved to the Tsim Sha Tsui East area, allowing more members of the public and tourists to enjoy the show.

ARR also teased the second drone show with a video featuring “surprising images and immersive interaction”, indicating the enhanced content that will be added to the returning drone show.

The 1,000 drones will display more images from the manga series, including a dress-up camera (換衫相機) and time machine (時光機). The 15-minute show will still feature voiceovers by local voice actors.

The enhanced content serves as a teaser for the upcoming second season of “T.P. Bon” (時光巡邏隊) on 17 July, a Netflix anime series adapted from manga by Fujiko F. Fujio (藤子·F·不二雄).

SK Lam, founder of ARR, said, "The first drone show, originally intended to promote the exhibition in July, was well received by the public. A lot of people asked if the show would be held again. The success of the first show depended on environmental and weather factors, as well as the concerted efforts from Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Hong Kong Tourism Board, alongside other public bodies and business partners."

"As a private organisation, we understand that organising large-scale events in Hong Kong requires huge efforts on coordination, and after a lot of hard work and continued support from the above-mentioned parties, we are finally able to bring the show back.”

On the other hand, ARR and Fujiko Pro will also bring the "100% Doraemon & FRIENDS" touring special exhibition on July 13, including the world's tallest 12-meter Doraemon inflatable sculpture and a free-to-visit 100% Doraemon outdoor exhibition area.

ARR also works with Discover Hong Kong to bring 10 spots of “Anywhere Door” in Hong Kong from 9 July to 8 August. Each “Anywhere Door” features the signature views of iconic attractions, according to ARR’s Instagram post.

Besides, the event includes a ticketed indoor “100% Doraemon Manga Art Exhibition Hall”, which offers an exclusive screening of an animated short film, immersive rooms, interactive installations, replicas of original artworks, and 17 sets of sculptures.
