Global fintech company Revolut has unveiled a first-of-its-kind debit card vending machine. Located at the National University of Singapore, the machine dispenses physical debit cards and is part of Revolut's strategy to enhance financial accessibility and literacy among students.

Through Revolut, students can get their own debit cards and gain access to a variety of money management tools such as budgeting and analytics, making payments locally and internationally and starting their investment journey. Meanwhile, features available through its app include sending and receiving money, smart budgeting tools, and a 5% cashback on select brands.

The service, according to the company, also supports students traveling abroad by offering expense splitting, no foreign exchange fees on currency exchanges up to SG$5,000 per month during weekdays, competitive exchange rates, and security controls such as a disposable virtual card.

Additionally, Revolut highlights an educational component with its "stock learn" module, designed to educate users about stock investments, allowing investments in stocks and ETFs starting at US$1. Other investment options include precious metals.

“We are always looking for new and innovative ways to make money management accessible to our customers. We are really excited to launch Singapore’s first ever debit card vending machine in one of the most established and largest universities here, making it easy for students to get their cards. Whether it's spending in countries around the world, splitting bills seamlessly with friends, saving for a new Playstation or learning about various investing tools, Revolut will be their all-in-one money companion," said Raymond Ng, chief executive officer, Revolut Singapore.

The Revolut cards from the vending machine are exclusively in partnership with Visa. This enables Revolut customers to enjoy a vast acceptance of Visa's networks across 200 countries and by over 100 million merchants worldwide.

"At Visa, we believe in the power of collaboration and innovation. Working with valued partners such as Revolut, who are at the forefront of creating innovative products tailored for the Gen Z segment, is crucial. These products not only help young people manage their money effectively but also educate them about investments, supporting their financial journey," said Adeline Kim, Visa country manager, Singapore and Brunei.

"Based on our Gen Z research, close to 40% of Gen Z consumers indicate that convenience is a crucial factor in determining which product they use to pay, and the same number highlighted better rewards and offers would make them switch to alternative payment methods. By providing easy access for the youths to obtain their debit cards through the vending machines at NUS and providing great cashback when they shop and pay, we help to support this next generation to take control of their financial future,” added Kim.

Customers may obtain their Revolut x Visa debit card by simply following the instructions on the vending machine. Once the card is dispensed, customers will need to scan the QR code on the envelope and sign up for a Revolut account.

This vending machine can also be used by existing customers if they want to get a new card.

This isn't Revolut and Visa's first time working together on a campaign. Last year, the global fintech company and digital payment company partnered up to launch an out of home (OOH) campaign across Singapore to raise awareness of its instant card transfer service.

The nationwide OOH campaign with Visa spans digital OOH and programmatic OOH while targeting millennial working adults and expats, according to a spokesperson from the brand when MARKETING-INTERACTIVE reached out in September 2023.

Through instant card transfers, Revolut’s Singapore customers will be able to send money in real-time to eligible Mastercard and Visa cardholders in over 80 countries. The service uses Mastercard Send and Visa Direct platforms that require a customer’s name and 16-digit card number.
