David Mayo to head up Ogilvy & Mather Malaysia as CEO

Ogilvy & Mather Malaysia has appointed David Mayo as CEO and country head, with immediate effect.Mayo was last  the CMO of Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific and was based out of Singapore. Prior to this, he was the CEO of Bates CHI&Partners for more than four years. In the past, Mayo has worked as the president with Ogilvy and Advertising and Asean and had been with the company for more than 15 years.  He has also been the business development director at Bates Asia in the past.In an exclusive quote to A+M, Mayo said, "A country leadership role at Ogilvy & Mather is never to be taken lightly. Our Malaysia agency stands tall both creatively and effectively - in Malaysia and in the region, which means I have a unique combination of both a powerful brand and a strong business foundation upon which to build. It's a rare privilege and the staff, our clients and I are very excited about our next chapter together."He added the new role is an addition to his existing portfolio as  he would continue to retain his position on the Asia pacific regional board of directors. Moreover, in his new role, he would drive growth by working with local management team and partnering with chief creative officer Gavin Simpson. He plans to increase creative firepower and further invest in capabilities around native communications, digital, data and personal content.Mayo will be replacing John Deschner who was previously the CEO, and was based out of Kuala Lumpur.A+M understands that Deschner has relocated to the US. Deschner took on the role in August of 2015 and joined the team from Deutsch LA in the United States where he was executive director. Under his leadership, Jacey Lee was promoted as Ogilvy & Mather Malaysia’s new chief operating officer.
