ComfortDelGro, through its joint venture with British railway network Go-Ahead Group, Connecting Stockholm, has been awarded an 11-year contract to operate and maintain the Stockholm Metro.
This is ComfortDelGro’s first rail contract in Sweden and will be its largest rail passenger operation outside of Singapore. ComfortDelGro also currently holds a 45% stake in Connecting Stockholm.
Operations are expected to commence in May 2025 with Connecting Stockholm overseeing all of Stockholm Metro’s seven lines, including 100 stations, six depots and 107km of track.

Its role as the appointed rail operator includes customer service, planning and the delivery of rail services, as well as fleet, station and depot facility maintenance.
The contract also caters for Connecting Stockholm to provide project support for Stockholm Public Transport Administration's Trafikförvaltningen, to further develop and expand the Stockholm Metro in the future.
"ComfortDelGro’s active expansion into the international rail scene is part of our strategy to leverage expertise across the group to grow our core public transportation business into new regions,” said Mark Greaves, ComfortDelGro chairman.
“We are delighted to have made good progress in recent years, having been awarded rail contracts in New Zealand, France and now, Sweden,” he added.
Connecting Stockholm will be taking over Hong Kong’s MTR which has been running the rail system since 2009 with its concession agreement ending in 2025, as reported by The Straits Times. The report also stated that the contract is worth more than 40 billion Swedish krona (SGD 5.1 billion).
The contract will bring the total length of rail operated by ComfortDelGro to 317km and comes after the group signed to operate rail services in Paris in July last year.
The contract, which is for an initial term of six years with the opportunity for further extension to nine years, is for the South sector of Line 15 – a new automated line under the ambitious 200-km Grand Paris Express (GPE) greenfield metro programme in the Greater Paris region, France. ORA will operate and maintain metro services across 16 stations, passing through 22 cities, over 33 kilometers.
