Cheetos has officially returned to Indonesia after a three-year hiatus, following PepsiCo's investment of around US$200 million to establish a new snack production facility in Cikarang, West Java.

The company confirmed that production at the Cikarang plant began in January 2025, with Cheetos available in two variants: the new Cheese flavour and Grilled Corn.

"Hello, Indonesia! Cheetos is back with the flavour that sticks - #KejunyaBikinNempel! Grab yours now at your nearest Alfamart and Alfamidi!" the company said in an Instagram post, referring to the convenience store chains where the snack will be sold.

PepsiCo's return to the Indonesian snack market follows the conclusion of its previous joint venture with Indofood CBP. In August 2021, the company ceased production, packaging, and distribution of its products, including Cheetos, Lay's, and Doritos, in Indonesia.

This followed PepsiCo's decision to sell its stake in Indofood Fritolay Makmur, ending a successful 30-year partnership. As part of the agreement, PepsiCo refrained from competing in the Indonesian market for a period of three years.

"We are thrilled to bring smiles back to the Indonesian people! To ensure the highest quality and taste, we are committed to using only the best ingredients," said Gabrielle Angriani Johny, director of Government Affairs and Corporate Communications at PepsiCo Indonesia, in a LinkedIn post. She also expressed appreciation for the Indonesian government's support in facilitating this return.

As Cheetos makes its way back into Indonesian households, the investment signals PepsiCo's long-term commitment to the country’s snack industry, potentially paving the way for further brand reintroductions and expansion plans in the future.

Last year, it was reported that PepsiCo's factory in Indonesia spans approximately six hectares, with groundbreaking taking place in 2023. According to Johny, the facility will produce Cheetos, Lay's, and Doritos. The factory will run entirely on renewable electricity, recycle 100% of its water, and commit to sustainable packaging and local crop development, she added.
