Big Data Exchange (BDx), a data centre solutions provider in APAC, is expanding into Indonesia through a US$300 million joint venture agreement with Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Aplikanusa Lintasarta, and Starone Mitra Telekomunikasi. According to BDx, this would be one of the largest foreign investments in the data centre sector in Indonesia.

Through this strategic agreement, BDx will collaborate with Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and Lintasarta to establish a new data centre and cloud-focused operation in Indonesia. The joint venture is being formed to meet Indonesia's growing need for a higher level of global data centre facilities and aims to deliver a comprehensive portfolio of the most advanced innovative solutions to enable digital transformation. This marquee company will focus on multiple industries, including financial services, hyperscalers, telecom operators and government organisations.

With the joint venture, customers in Indonesia can leverage BDx's carrier-neutral network that spans Singapore, Hong Kong, and mainland China, as well as its data center infrastructure and maintenance tools.

According to India-based market research firm Mordor Intelligence, the Indonesia data center market was worth US$1.67 billion in 2021, and it is expected to grow to US$3.43 billion by 2027, with a compound annual growth rate of more than 13%.

Braham Singh, CEO of BDx, said the joint venture agreement adds a key APAC market to the company's expanding data centre portfolio. "Indonesia's rapidly growing and sustained demand for connectivity and cloud services continues to drive the need for data centre solutions, providing the next strategic step in BDx's footprint. BDx's dedication to data centre operational excellence and its commitment to sustainability will be reflected throughout every step of this venture," he said.

Meanwhile, BDx's chief development officer, Mayank Srivastava, said the partnership will fulfill the critical need for robust, world-class data centres in Indonesia and elevate this data centre market while empowering enterprise and hyperscale digital transformation and growth.
