Airasia ride plans to launch in Singapore this June

Capital A is planning to launch its e-hailing service called ‘airasia ride’ in Singapore this June. CEO, Tony Fernandes, made the announcement at a press conference during the airasia SuperApp rider and driver appreciation held in Kuala Lampur on 12 January. He also said that Capital A is still working towards obtaining a license to operate in Singapore, hoping to secure it by the end of this quarter. He pointed out that as of now, there are approximately 400 full-time drivers with airasia ride.

The company is currently operating in the Malaysian, Indonesian and Thailand markets, having marked its first year in operations in Thailand in September last year. Fernandes reportedly said, the company is looking at opening in more cities in Malaysia, and Singapore will be next in June.

According to Bernama, airasia food has also seen a rise in full-time riders too. Standing at approximately 100 riders, Fernandes said that the company has achieved a higher completion rate of 85% and significantly improved the delivery speed performance. “Essentially, the full-time employment programme for our drivers and riders has not only improved productivity and efficiency but also created a more conducive working environment and provided them with a better work-life balance,” he added.

However, Airasia’s food delivery ambitions seem to have come to a halt in Singapore. A quick check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE earlier found that the brand’s web-based platform informed users that addresses within Singapore were outside its coverage area. AirAsia declined to comment on MARKETING-INTERACTIVE's queries.

Airasia ride’s regional CEO, Lim Chiew Shan, said they are currently looking to find a combination of both flexible and full-time drivers for the Singaporean market. “We are targeting to see profit starting this year and it is likely that we will be the first ride-hailing company to make profit in two years after its launching,” he explained.

Earlier this week, airasia named David Viray the head of brand for airasia. Viray will oversee the branding of the airline business in Malaysia and across Asia.
