Abbott nabs KFC Malaysia's chief marketing officer

Global healthcare firm Abbott has appointed Premnath Unnikrishnan as its new head of digital marketing and consumer connections for Malaysia. Unnikrishnan has over 14 years of experience in digital marketing and eCommerce. Prior to his new appointment, Unnikrishnan was the chief marketing officer of KFC Malaysia.

During his stint at QSR Brands, he also served as head of MarTech, digital strategy and e-wallets head of digital projects. He first joined QSR Brands in 2020 as the head of digital, eCommerce and retention at Pizza Hut Malaysia.

"I'm stepping into uncharted territory today by penning this farewell post. In the whirlwind of excitement that typically accompanies a new chapter, I've always bypassed the urge to reflect on the past. But as I prepare to bid adieu to a place I've called home for the past four years, I find myself engulfed in a mix of emotions," said Unnikrishnan (pictured) in a LinkedIn post where he announced his departure from QSR Brands. 

"Leaving behind a team as dynamic and supportive as QSR Brands is undeniably bittersweet. In the trenches, I've had the privilege of working alongside some of the most dedicated, hardworking, and passionate individuals in the industry. Together, we've weathered storms, celebrated triumphs, and cultivated friendships that I'll always hold dear," he added. 

Before joining QSR Brands, he was head of digital at Havas Media Group Malaysia, head of digital marketing at Lyca Digital and digital regional head for MEC Interaction, Group M. 

In October 2023, Abbott named Caitlin Nguyen as its new head of digital and customer engagement, established pharmaceuticals. Nguyen will report to Abbott's regional CMO, Laura Chevrie. In her new role, Nguyen will be responsible for driving digital and e-commerce performance in the company, spearheading telehealth and telemedicine partnerships, and building digitally-driven omnichannel engagement with customers. Her role will cover Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan, she said.
