Malaysian comedian and YouTuber Nigel Ng, best known for portraying a middle-aged Cantonese character Uncle Roger, is set to open a new restaurant in Malaysia later this year.

Ng announced this in a video of him reacting to late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain eating in Malaysia, where he made commentary praising Malaysian food.

“If you like food you have to travel to Uncle Roger country [Malaysia], because so many ingredient[s] we don’t export, you can’t get it out of any other country,” said Ng.

He then makes a segway to a “secret” announcement halfway through the video.

“By the way, another reason you should go to Malaysia is that Uncle Roger actually [is] going to open my very first restaurant, coming soon later this year,” he said.

Those who cannot wait to try Uncle Roger’s food can instead taste his creamy chili crab pasta kit, which just saw its second and final launch. The set includes two bundles of bucatini and spicy sauce with crab at US$29.99 (RM141.4). Its previous launch was sold out incredibly quickly, according to Ng himself.

In response to complaints about exorbitant prices, Ng said it is of “restaurant quality” and “cannot be compared to instant noodles”. He also explained that “shipping frozen food is very hard”, and the US$20 shipping price ensures the ingredients stay fresh. He then offered a 10% discount code to his audience.

“After that, if you feel this is too expensive for you, your wallet is too weak,” he joked.

Comments under the video mostly expressed excitement for Ng’s “little secret”, with some commenters excitedly asking for the name and location of the restaurant.
