Whatsapp for businesses gets AI-driven ad injection

WhatsApp is getting its first dose of AI as parent company Meta integrates the first AI-driven ad targeting program for businesses on the platform.
This is to draw out ad revenue on the widely used platform which has in recent years embraced features such as payment and customer service.

WhatsApp is also integrating AI to help businesses create ads on Facebook and Instagram, reminding customers they left an item in their cart or offering a discount for a purchase they’ve been waiting to make. The AI tools can help businesses on WhatsApp better assist customers and help them discover new products they may be interested in, and respond to the most popular questions businesses receive on WhatsApp.
A report by Meta and Bain & Company published in May this year, implementing chat-based assisted journeys, known as conversational journeys, on platforms with high user engagement such as social media and messaging can be key for businesses to engage and facilitate online transactions.
This is already in motion as most consumers are informally engaging with both small and large businesses on social media and messaging platforms.
According to a report on Tech Crunch, the company said it is testing AI-powered customer support and is testing this ability with select merchants in India and Singapore, with expansion to Brazil underway.
Meta is also rolling out Meta Verified on the WhatsApp Business app in Brazil, India, Indonesia and Colombia. Essentially the Meta Verified badge means a business has registered their information with Meta.
