Watson's Malaysia and Warner Music Malaysia are set to rock out the iconic Stadium Merdeka as part of its "Futureland festival".

Scheduled to take place on 23 November 2024, Watson's Malaysia is coming onboard "Futureland festival" as its title sponsor. This comes as the beauty retailer celebrates its 30th anniversary in the country.

"Futureland festival" aims to celebrate the future of Malaysian music by highlighting the creativity of its local artists and providing them with a platform to shine and connect with fans.

That said, the three-day festival will showcase a lineup of some of the hottest and talented local musicians, groups and bands across the nation including Hujan, Bunkface, Kugiran Masdo, Aina Abdul, Ayda Jebat, Syamel, Tuju, Zynakal, Fimie Don, Amsyar Lee, Rizal Rasid, Empty Page, Fugo and many more.

In addition to the music performances, the festival will feature an on-ground activation by Watson's called the "Watsons glow up zone" where attendees can look forward to freebies, samples and interactive experiences.

A food village and street activities such as pop-up stores and communal graffiti painting will be available at the event too.

“As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, Watsons Malaysia is thrilled to partner with the electrifying 'Futureland festival'. This partnership is not just a celebration of music, but also a way for us to reward our members and consumers with exclusive promotions and deals," said Caryn Loh, managing director of Watsons Malaysia and COO of health and beauty Asia, AS Watson Group.

"At Watsons, we strive to go beyond health and beauty; we want our customers to see us as a hub for lifestyle and entertainment too. This event is the perfect opportunity to bring together two iconic brands for an unforgettable experience," added Loh.

Stadium Merdeka holds a significant place in Malaysia's history, serving as the site where the nation's first prime minister declared independence.

The venue has since hosted numerous global and regional superstars, making it a cornerstone of the Malaysian music landscape.

It reopened on 17 August 2024 following a restoration process back in April 2019.

"We are incredibly excited to launch the 'Futureland festival', marking our commitment to the local music scene. We are proud to host the first music event at this historic venue after its refurbishment. It will offer a unique musical experience that honours our history while paving the way for the future of Malaysian music," said Dinesh Ratnam, managing director of Warner Music Malaysia and Singapore.

"We are delighted to partner with Watsons Malaysia for this thrilling festival. This collaboration not only enhances our ability to deliver an unforgettable experience for music lovers, but also reflects Watsons Malaysia's commitment to supporting the local arts and culture," added Ratnam.

Earlier this year, Watson's Malaysia supported local talents by fronting them in its Lunar New Year campaign titled "Enter the dragons".

Anchoring the 'Enter the Dragons' campaign was a brand film which saw drama unfold as tensions run high between the Dragons family as they prepare and make their grand entrance for Chinese New Year.

The almost seven minutes brand film is split into three parts and features local celebrities and influencers such as Mimi Chu, Amber Chia, Joey Kong, Alvin Wong, Chelsia Ng, Mark O'Dea, Phey Yong, Han Xiiao Aii, Perry Kuan and Kyzer Tou.
