The Waterbomb Singapore festival is set to go ahead later this month despite the legal troubles surrounding one of the organisers of the event.

Waterbomb Singapore festival is a two-day music event featuring performances by K-pop artistes such as Jay Park, Rain, Chung Ha, CL, Sandara Park, Sorn, Jessi and Loco. It will also feature local musicians from Singapore including Lullaboy.

Last week, it was announced by the Singapore Police Force that one of its organisers, David Yong, CEO of Evergreen Group Holdings, is being investigated for fraud.

Evergreen Group Holdings is a co-organiser of Waterbomb Singapore, along with Viu Scream Dates.

When MARKETING-INTERACTIVE reached out, a spokesperson for Viu Singapore said that it "remain focused on creating an unforgettable experience at Waterbomb Singapore". It added that it would like to assure guests that the event would proceed as planned.

The statement did not address whether Yong will attend the event.

MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out for more information.

Checks by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE revealed that a timetable posted on the event’s Instagram page remains unchanged as of 6 August.

The schedule for 24 August still reflects “Waterbomb Time! with David Yong” after a performance by Kwon Eunbi at 5.56pm.

Yong was charged on 3 August with falsification of accounts. Various companies under Evergreen Group Holdings were raising funds through the issuance of promissory notes that promised an annual interest of 10%, said the Singapore Police Force in a statement.

Investigations arose due to the suspicion that investor monies were being misused, it added. If convicted, Yong faces up to 10 years' jail and a fine.

Meanwhile, earlier this June, Waterbomb Hong Kong organisers apologised to attendees after complaints of chaotic queues and a delayed start.

According to its statement posted on Instagram, the organisers of the festival, including WATERBOMB HK, 北京亦通亦和⽂化傳媒 and ECHO HK, said they have committed to thoroughly reviewing the event planning and humbly reflecting on areas that need improvement.

Regarding the delayed entry for attendees, the organisers said the event was originally scheduled to open for entry at 1pm and start at 2pm on 1 June.

However, due to the typhoon and unstable weather conditions, some facilities were severely damaged, and persistent heavy rain led to uncleared waterlogging in the venue.
