Victoria Racing Club has appointed Nikki Clarkson as its new chief marketing officer, as the organisation sharpens its focus on brand growth and digital innovation.

Clarkson, who most recently held the same role at Southern Cross Austereo, brings more than 25 years of experience in brand management, digital strategy, content creation and media commercialisation.

She will lead the club’s marketing, communications, content, digital, production and social media functions, with a key focus on expanding the Flemington brand year-round, including its flagship Melbourne Cup Carnival.

VRC chief executive officer Kylie Rogers said Clarkson’s expertise in customer insights, media strategy and storytelling made her the right choice to drive the club’s next phase of growth.

“We are thrilled to appoint Nikki to the role of chief marketing officer,” Rogers said. “She shares our enthusiasm for the future of Flemington Place and recognises the huge opportunities that lie ahead for the VRC. She will be an asset for our club, VRC partners, and the wider racing industry.”

Clarkson said she was looking forward to taking on the role at one of the world’s most prestigious sporting and entertainment organisations.

“I am thrilled and proud to be joining one of the world’s greatest sporting and entertainment institutions, and look forward to working with Kylie, the board and the wider VRC team to contribute to an exciting future for the club and the Flemington Place precinct,” she said.

Clarkson joins the VRC’s leadership team alongside chief racing officer Leigh Jordon, who was appointed in December to oversee the club’s racing program and training facilities. She will officially commence her role on 17 March. Further appointments to the VRC’s executive team expected to follow.
