Vestiaire Collective renews call against fast fashion with new brand film

Luxury fashion reseller Vestiaire Collective has unveiled a new brand film, urging fashion lovers to do their part for a more sustainable world.

Opening by asking "Why is so much of our wardrobe unworn?", the 30-second spot from director Sophie Jones calls upon a new wave of activists to say no to fast fashion while altering their own consumption habits as well - namely, buying less, buying better and adopting a circular shopping philosophy that embraces buying and selling of "pre-loved" (pre-owned) clothing.

On its website, Vestiaire elaborates further, citing research by Greenpeace and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation stating that clothing consumption is set to rise by 63% by 2030; however, we wear our clothes 40% less than we did 10 years ago. According to a Mu - Eco-agency assessment commissioned by Vestiaire in June to September 2020, it's estimated that buying a second-hand sweater as opposed to a new one can reduce environmental impact by up to 81%.

With climate change an indisputable reality that will affect our lives and futures, sustainability has become an important consideration for brands and individuals alike. While whether or not the fashion industry can ever be truly "sustainable" remains to be seen, Vestiaire's circular model certainly puts reducing our impact on the planet at the forefront.

“This film perfectly embodies the 4 pillars that lay at the heart of Vestiaire Collective, fashion, sustainability, community and trust," said Fanny Moizant, co-founder and president of Vestiaire Collective. "We believe the circular fashion movement has the power to help rewire the industry and promote a conscious approach to consumption. We hope this film will inspire like-minded eco-conscious fashion lovers to join our community and together help build a brighter more sustainable future."
